The Civic Circle

Empowering students to understand and participate in democracy, using music and the arts

The Civic Circle’s innovative, arts-based curriculum teaches young students seven civic skills we call “steps to democracy,” including civility and respect (Listen!), news literacy (Learn!), and voting (Choose!). Through after-school workshops and assembly shows at Title 1 schools in Montgomery County, we help close the equity gap in civic learning and engagement, and lift up youth voices through the arts. Our program breaks ground by starting civic learning young, using the arts to make democracy exciting and fun, and teaching real skills. Civic learning correlates to college and career readiness, and prepares students to become voters and leaders in their communities.  theciviccircle.org
